Many historical versions in the Minecraft launcher are labeled as "old_alpha", despite not all actually being from the Alpha development phase[1] (though this may be due to a more general use of the software development term "alpha"). This term may refer to:

  • Pre-classic, the first private development phase of Minecraft.[2]
  • Classic, originally named "Minecraft Alpha".
  • Indev, where Minecraft was now "in development".
  • Infdev, infinite world generation development.
  • Alpha, the development phase of Minecraft preceding Beta.
