This guide is a simplified overview of all changes in the Caves & Cliffs updates (Java Edition 1.17.x and Java Edition 1.18.x releases), which assumes at least some familiarity with the Nether Update (Java Edition 1.16.x releases).

  • Fire mobs (blazes, magma cubes, striders) take more damage from freezing; ice mobs (strays, polar bears, snow golems) and the Wither are immune to freezing.

  • A new mountain sub-biome that often generates at the base of mountains.
  • Resembles a plains biome with blueish grass and numerous flowers.

  • Resembles a snowy taiga biome with a surface made of snow blocks and powder snow.
