A drip leaf is a plant intended to generate within lush caves. It is intended to be used as a block for parkour and platforming.

Obtaining[]

Natural generation[]

Drip leaves naturally generate within lush caves biomes, which can be accessed only if the world type is single biome.

Breaking[]

Drip leaves can be obtained with any tool, but an axe is the intended tool. It also breaks when pushed with a piston or sticky piston.

Destroying a drip leaf plant drops a single drip leaf regardless of the height of the plant.

  1. Times are for unenchanted tools as wielded by players with no status effects, measured in seconds. For more information, see Breaking § Speed.

Usage[]

Drip leaves consist of any number of non-solid stem blocks atop of each other and a single leaf as the uppermost block, which can be stood on by any entity like a normal block for 1 second (20 game ticks). After this time, it tilts down, becoming lower than a block and giving a player warning that it is about to collapse. After a few ticks it tilts down and become temporarily non-solid. When the leaf is powered by redstone, it does not tilt or collapse, however. Powering the stem has no effect.

One-block tall drip leaves can be used to make the player crawl. If a player is standing inside a drip leaf when it is fully tilted, and the dripleaf returns to the untilted position, the player is left crawling underneath the leaf.

When directly hit with any projectile, the leaf immediately becomes temporarily non-solid. This cannot be prevented by powering it with redstone.

Placement[]

A drip leaf can be placed only on top of a block. It is always one block tall when placed.

Growth[]

Using bone meal on a drip leaf makes it grow 1 block taller.

History[]

Upcoming Java Edition
1.1721w05aBig Dripleaf JE1 Added drip leaves
21w06aDrip leaves can no longer be broken with arrows in spawn protection.[1]
No longer stop tilting while sneaking on, jumping on, or even jumping off it.
Now tilt quicker.
Now tilt when hit by projectiles, instead of being broken.
Drip leaf can now be used with redstone: Powering a drip leaf now prevents it from tilting down. Powering an already tilted drip leaf tilts it back up. Powering a drip leaf down allows it to tilt down again. Powering a drip leaf does not prevent tilting because of projectiles.
Interestingly, the block does not save if it is powered unlike anything else that reacts to redstone.
21w07aBig Dripleaf JE2 BE1 The model of the drip leaf has been changed.
21w10aDrip leaves can now generate in lush caves.
21w11aBreaking the stem of a drip leaf now drops the block.
Drip leaves can now be bonemealed on their stem to make them grow.
21w13aThe model of the drip leaves has been tweaked that the texture of the underside of the leaf flipped from Big Dripleaf UNKVER1 (facing NWU) to Big Dripleaf UNKVER2 (facing NWU).
Bedrock Edition
1.16.220beta 1.16.220.52Big Dripleaf JE2 BE1 Added drip leaves.
releaseDrip leafs have been made inaccessible in the full release.
Upcoming Bedrock Edition
1.16.230beta 1.16.230.54Breaking a drip leaf stem now drops a dripleaf item, matching Java Edition.

Trivia[]

  • The fact that the stem intersects the leaf when it tilts is actually completely intended.[2]
