This page describes content that is a part of the Flames of the Nether DLC. 

A wither skeleton is an undead hostile mob that can be found within the flames of the nether DLC of Minecraft Dungeons.

Behavior[]

Unlike within the original game, wither skeletons are not immune to lava, and do not attack piglins. Their behavior AI are simliar to vindicators, they have same base health, retreat after hitting heroes, "target lock" and "novelty" behavior. But they have long attack range and move faster, can switch attack behavior like iron golems.

Walk

Wither skeletons move fast and run at high speed toward the hero.

Wither skeletons have two attack behavior, both inflict Wither effect to heroes. (2~3 seconds).^{[more information needed]} After wither skeletons hitting a hero, they retreat.

Basic attack

Wither skeletons strike heroes with their sword, dealing 10 base damage.

Strong attack

After basic attack, wither skeletons slash heroes with their sword, dealing 15 base damage. Then switch to basic attack.

Target lock

Wither skeletons strike turn to "lock onto the hero" if they run more than fifteen blocks^[verify] away. Once triggered, Their charge speed is slightly increases and they no longer retreat after hitting but chase the hero until death or aggressiveness is exhausted.

Novelty animation

If the hero is surrounded by three or more wither skeletons and has already been attacked by some of them, the wither skeletons that has been retreated or outside the battlefield will do a call out behavior called "Novelty" before their next charges and attacks, as one of the easter eggs in the game.

Variant[]

Wither skeletons have a ranged variant that wields the red snake, unlike within the original game. After attacking a target, they retreat for a few moments before rushing again. Wither skeleton archer have less health but more arrows damage.
