Snapshoty to wersje deweloperskie które dają możliwość zobaczenia i przetestowania zmian które zostaną wprowadzone w następnej oficjalnej wersji, aczkolwiek dużo graczy nie wie jak je zainstalować. Ten poradnik ma za zadanie to wytłumaczyć.
Od wersji 1.6
W celu instalacji snapshota na wersji 1.6 lub wyższej, pobierz launcher. Link do pobrania znajduje się tutaj minecraft.net/download.
Aby wybrać wersję deweloperską, musisz zrobić następujące kroki:
- Utwórz nowy profil dla wersji deweloperskich. Naciśnij przycisk New Profile na launcherze. Pokaże się okno dialogowe:
- Nazwij jakoś profil, na przykład 'Snapshoty'.
- Zaznacz Game Directory oraz dodaj dowolną nazwę folderu na końcu (the pathname, most likely starting with "C:\").
- Zaznacz opcję Enable experimental development versions("snapshots").
- Wybierz wersję snapshota z listy.
- Zatwierdź zmiany klikając Save Profile.
Od teraz możesz grać na obu wersjach gry. By zmienić aktualną wersję po prostu zmień profil. Pamiętaj że Minecraft nie zwraca uwagi na kompatybilność Twoich światów. Powinieneś używać specjapnych, testowych światów do gry na wersjach deweloperskich. (Warto zaznaczyć że możliwe jest korzystanie z tego samego katalogu na wszystkich profilach, lecz nie jest to zalecane z powodu możliwych problemów z kompatybilnością światów pomiędzy różnymi wersjami gry.)
Jeśli chcesz zmienić wersję snapshota, wystarczy że naciśniesz Edit Profile w launcherze oraz wybierzesz interesującą Ciebie wersję z listy Use versions.

Snapshoty niedostępne w launcherze
Krok 1: Navigate to the specific snapshot page, which can be accessed via the snapshot history page, and download the client version on the right-hand side of the page.
- For the remaining Kroks, close Minecraft and the launcher.
Krok 2: Go to your .minecraft/versions folder:

Krok 3: Create a folder with the same name as the snapshot, for instance "12w15a" or "14w02a".

Krok 4: Move the .jar file that you downloaded into that folder.
Krok 5: Download also the .json file from that page into that folder.

Krok 4: Move the "minecraft.jar" that you downloaded into that folder, and give it the same name, for instance "12w15a.jar".
Krok 5: Create in that folder a .json file with that same name, for instance "12w15a.json", and paste into that file the text from this file.
Krok 6: Edit the .json file with a text editor, and change "<Profile Name>" on line 2 to the snapshot name, for instance "12w15a". Also change line 5 where it says "release", to say "snapshot".

Ostrzeżenia
Ostrzeżenie 1: Opening existing single player worlds is not without risk: they might become broken or unloadable. If you load the map in the new snapshot & later you downgrade your version of minecraft, the map might contain items that don't exist in that version yet, thus corrupting it. A map can also become corrupt by any bugs in the new snapshot. Don't take any risks: backup your saves! (they are in \.minecraft\saves\)
Ostrzeżenie 2: Minecraft has a tendency of deleting older snapshot folders from the \versions folder when the launcher closes. It is advised to copy the snapshot folder you have just created to a safe location.
