This tutorial focuses on tips and tricks that advanced players may find usefull.

Enchanting[]

  • Try to put the highest level enchantments on an item first. If you have a high-level enchantment to put on a really good bow, for example, the enchantment would be too costly to place on it, while placing the lowest level enchantments on it last will decrease the cost overall because of the lower costs of the enchantment.
  • While Sharpness may seem to be the best enchantment overall for swords and axes, Smite and Bane of Arthropods are better for the undead (including the Wither) and spiders respectively. It is highly recommended to use Smite against the Wither, however it is purely the player's choice on whether the enchantment may be used for everyday use. Always retain Sharpness V for players.
  • The same applies for the following armor enchantments:
    • Protection
    • Fire Protection
    • Projectile Protection
    • Blast Protection
You should use Protection for everyday use. Blast protection is particularly usefull when fighting the Wither, fire protection is usefull in the Nether and projectile protection is particularly usefull if you are scared of skeletons. The basic usages for each enchantment are as follows:
    • Exploration
      • Protection, Blast Protection if worried about creepers
      • Bring along a Sharpness sword and Power bow for general usage, as well as other enchanted tools if needed
    • Mining
      • Blast Protection and Fire Protection, for creepers and lava (it will give you more time to get out of the lava)
      • The type of sword you use here is entirely you're choice, as bows are not as usefull underground. If you have both a Silk Touch and Fortune pickaxe, preferably use the Silk Touch one as you can separate out the ores when you get back to the surface.
    • Building
      • Unless you're working with lava, you only need Blast Protection and/or Protection.
      • Always bring your sword in case, usually with Sharpness due to the variety of mobs.
    • Boss Fights
      • Ender Dragon
        • Always bring the highest Protection (for the endermen), Blast Protection (for the end charges) and Feather Falling (if you want to survive being thrown up by the dragon) possible, as you won't be affected by fire or arrows in the End. However, if you like you may bring Projectile Protection for the shulkers if you travel straight to the end cities.
        • Sharpness V, Efficiency V, Power V and Infinity are a must for the fight, as Sharpness will deal more damage to the dragon (as will Power), Efficiency will allow you to break end stone faster if the spawn is inside the island and Infinity will help you deal with arrow numbers.
      • Wither
        • Blast Protection, possibly Protection if you're in Pocket Edition for the wither skeletons that spawn.
        • Always aim for Smite V and Power V, as well as Infinity, as the Wither counts as an undead mob. Remember that at half health, the Wither will be immune to arrows. Remember your potions.
    • Ocean Monument
      • Respiration, Protection and Aqua Affinity are required in the monument, as you will have a much higher chance of dying without them. Also try Depth Strider.
      • Sharpness is the most effective enchantment for any weapon, as bows are next to useless underwater. However, the Sweeping Edge enchantment may come in usefull.
    • Woodland Mansion
      • The Woodland mansion is a straightforward piece of work. Bring your standard exploration equipment, as well as a decent Power V bow. Hostile mobs should not be a problem, and the evoker is easily killed with two arrows from long range.
      • Still bring an extra set of armor in case your current set wears out on the journey.
