How to Render MCD Chests[]
Hi, I see you added chests for MCD at some point. Can you tell me where the base textures for the chests are? I'm playing with Blending and trying to replicate one and I cannot find it or figure out how to do it. Basically, I'm trying to learn so I can make these things in the future. Thanks for any pointers you can give me. - AD OffKilter (talk) 01:54, 28 July 2022 (UTC) UPDATE: I seem to have finally made it work!
- Hi, Sorry for my late reply, I just learned this trick not too long ago. From my master Oakar258 (a wiki editor doesn't have the game but made 90% of the Minecraft Dungeons render base on his powerful render knowledge.) He told me the base color of the chest is already in the texture, but transparent in blender. You have to correct it by invert the alpha channel of the texture and merge them. First, In UV editing you should have a image tab on left side. Then change "alpha" from straight to Channel packed. This way, Blender will be able to read color values from transparent pixels. It does not apple to solid view, because here the program will always show texture as is, as you already know the "chest frame" looks like. You can save it as new image and merge with original texture. If you still have any questions, you can contact me on discord, or you can find me on the wiki's discord group. Have a nice day!- Alan 09:52,28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. Yup. I finally had figured out they were putting image pixels in the file with no alpha. I was able to just use the textures as-is by mixing two materials of the same type, and then using the alpha from the image as the mix node. That caused it to take the 'outline' from one material and the chest surface from the other. That worked perfectly. - AD OffKilter (talk) 15:06, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
