Społeczność skupiona wokół gry Minecraft stworzyła wiele programów, które wspomagają standardową rozgrywkę. Część z nich ułatwia rozgrywkę, inne dodają możliwości, których brakuje w grze, a jeszcze inne pozwalają oszukiwać. Są też programy, które pomagają w rozwikłaniu jakiegoś problemu związanego z obwodami czerwonego kamienia. Dostępne są również aplikacje pozwalające na wykonanie kopii zapasowej zapisów gry.
Niektóre aplikacje .NET mogą wymagać Mono do uruchomienia na Maci Linux.
