Minecraft Wiki Main Page[]

Does the Mojang IP request apply only to the fork or to both wikis? Because they only said it to the fork. Also, why refer to this wiki as “Fandom’s Minecraft Wiki” instead of “a wiki on Minecraft” or anything like this? HexaRuby (talk) 01:51, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

The initial change requests came in October 2021, when Microsoft terminated their official wiki partnership (see Minecraft_Wiki:Community_portal/Microsoft_status_update). Fandom made a number of changes, but in September 2023 Mojang reached out again (presumably to all Minecraft wikis), and asked that we all abide by their usage guidelines: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/usage-guidelines.
The forked wiki has better transparency, and you can see how they responded: https://meta.minecraft.wiki/w/Mojang_IP_request –September 30, 2023.
A Fandom staff member made changes to Fandom's Minecraft Wiki main page (unfortunately without an edit summary): https://minewiki.pl/en:Minecraft_Wiki?diff=2317970&oldid=2315973 -September 29, 2023, but the edit was reverted (presumably because there was no edit summary).
As for the actual name of the wiki, we do have some leeway, just not "Minecraft Wiki".

So, would something like “Minepedia” (The original name of this website) work? Also, does this apply sitewide or only in the main and about pages. [Note: The spamfilter didn’t let me comment because you linked to the fork.] HexaRuby (talk) 13:02, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
The previous owner of minepedia.net was the reason why the wiki needed to change its name from Minepedia. However, that organization no longer exists. The domain minepedia.net is currently registered to User:DarkShadowTNT. He hasn't done anything with the domain, and appears to be sitting on it so nobody else can register it.
Microsoft seemed most concerned about the "main" and "about" pages. Ferretwings (talk) 00:30, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

Hello, Ferretwings![]

I’m new to the Minecraft Wiki, and I love Minecraft. I even watched A Minecraft Movie in April 2025, and I loved it a lot- it became my favorite movie based on any video game. My favorite mode in Minecraft is Creative Mode. What’s your favorite Minecraft mode? NicktoonLover 15:38, 24 July 2025 (UTC)

Copying from the new Minecraft Wiki[]

The license of the new Minecraft Wiki does not allow its content to be used without attribution or for commercial uses (like here on Fandom would be). I therefore request that you revert your edit on Module:LootChest/items because it was clearly copied from the new wiki as can be see by the addition of links that aren't correct on this wiki. You are welcome to edit the new wiki instead, the whole community had moved there already. -- MarkusRost (talk) 🐴 21:44, 8 August 2025 (UTC)

The same goes for your edit to Module:LootChest/chests, which is also copied directly from the new wiki as noticeable by the inclusion of incorrect links. -- MarkusRost (talk) 🐴 22:42, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
Both wikis use CC BY-NC-SA 3.0, so it's fair game, but attribution is still needed. HexaRuby (talk) 16:12, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
For those who may visit my page, I will answer. Copy and paste from any other wiki is generally a bad idea. Even aside from copyrights, it is very unprofessional. In this instance, real life interrupted my thought process, and I goofed. The edits I originally intended to make to those pages were not meant to be a copy-paste. I do apologize for my carelessness. I went back, and made the edits I had originally meant to make.
There are some things that can be copied and modified for use on a wiki: templates, modules, and data. If you do not understand modules, it is best to leave them alone. Templates are a bit easier to modify for use. It is often a good idea to credit where the template or module came from, mostly for the sake of understanding how it is supposed to work. Plus every time Mediawiki gets updated, there is the possibility that what once worked fine, will now be broken. Data from any website can be retrieved, a process wiki specialists will often use to help seed and update wikis. We also collect data and images found within a game's data files (of course this only works if you own the game). My Minecraft data files are found at C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\versions\version-name\version-name.jar\data\minecraft
I caution editors to never copy original content such as descriptions, notes, and trivia. Editors can get information from anywhere on the internet, just no "copy-paste, word for word". And everything must be in the style of this wiki. Ferretwings (talk) 17:45, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
