Summary[]
This is a Bedrock village converted to an iron farm, viewed from the roof of one of the buildings. This village is found using the "Coastal Village" seed from the Seed Picker (prior to 1.17), about 300 blocks due east of the world spawn point. The tall structure on the left is a large ruined portal.
Because it requires no exotic materials, this farm is appropriate for an early-game Survival mode build. The farm produces about 200 ingots per hour, nowhere near the maximum possible, but still respectable for a farm with no exotic materials or optimization.
The intent here is to allow the village to function normally and produce iron at the same time, without needing to transport, enslave, or imprison villagers.
The villagers are free to roam and work, and every night they make their way over the bridges into the cobblestone building to sleep. The building has 20 beds in two floors, with a stairway between the floors and a path around the beds.
The farm requires a bucket for both water and one lava block, one hopper, a large amount of torches and wooden fences, lots of cobblestone, and patience. Most time is consumed by preparation: collecting wood, wool, cobblestone, and sufficient iron for tools, and preparing the village before starting on the farm.
One must first prepare the village by fencing it in and lighting it up, and adding some beds to encourage the villagers to breed while building the farm, which takes a long time. If you don't do this preparation, all it takes is one zombie to get into the community bedroom and you end up with a village full of zombie villagers. Moving the beds into the sleeping bunker to start the farm is the last step!
This type of farm is best suited for an "L"-shaped village, so the farm can be positioned in the inside corner of the L as close as possible to other buildings, where the job site blocks are located, to allow the villagers to pathfind between their job sites and their beds.
Hostile mobs cannot spawn inside the fenced-in village, but they are free to wander into the farm (or even spawn on top of the sleeping bunker), and get swept into the mob grinder underground. This happens seldom, but the collection chest has collected a bone, a couple of arrows, rotten flesh, and an odd item or two.
