In answer to your edit summaries, the code {{-}} is shorthand wiki-markup for the HTML+CSS coding <div style="clear:both;"></div>. It causes any text that would normally be wrapped around a floating element (like an image) to be forced to be clear of the image both vertically and horizontally.
